Ensight - Jeremy Wright’s Personal Blog

Blog Name Change

by Jeremy Wright on August 29th, 2005

In order to reflect the shift that’s been happening in terms of blog content, as well as my attitude towards Ensight, I’ve changed the blog’s name. To be fair, Ensight hasn’t been a true “Business & Tech blog” for nearly 2 years. It’s always been “whatever I’m thinking + blogging + new things I’m doing + life + fun”. For a long time, the “whatever I’m thinking” bit was heavily business and tech.

While that’s still certainly part of the mix, it isn’t the only thing happening in my mind anymore. For example, music will likely take a growing place here, largely because it’s taking a growing role in my life.

Thankfully, there’ll be a number of distinct blogs sprouting up over the next couple of months. Blog Marketing’s Blog, for example, will begin to hold more of my thoughts on business blogging and the advances and changes happening there.

As well, each of the two major projects being launched in the next couple of months will have their own blogs, as will the 2 new books I’m starting to work on, in various ways.

The new title for Ensight is simply “Jeremy Wright’s Personal Blog”. It’s really always been my personal blog, so don’t expect the content to suddenly become more heavily “life focussed”. It’s really just a public statement of what most readers have likely come to realize: this is my day-to-day blog. And day-to-day blogs don’t generally contain hundreds of deep thoughts. They contain random bits, funny stories, news of what’s going on as well as the occasional longer post.

As long as the above is what you expect here, it’s likely what you’ll continue to receive.

Ensight is where you’ll find what some people in Vancouver refer to as me “balls to the wall” and “totally transparent” and such. Hopefully there’ll still be business, tech, bloggy stuff and other bits of value in here. Changing the title was really just me admitting to myself what everyone else likely already knew: Ensight isn’t a business and tech blog anymore than The Brothers Grimm is a children’s movie ;-)

I think this will work well for you. I always struggled a bit with my personal blog because I wanted it to be Internet tech oriented, but every now and again there was something personal that I wanted to blog. Trying to find some sort of balance between the stuff that interested me, and the stuff that pops up in day to day life that should be blogged was difficult.

However, since I started working for Jurgle as their technology blogger, I now have a place to post my tech thoughts and observations specifically. This returned my personal blog to me, and I now blog about whatever the heck I feel like on it without feeling that I’m not contributing to the tech field that I love.

While I recoginze that your name change is largely symbolic, it’ll probably make your mental health a little easier :)

Sorry I missed you in NB last week. Now that I know that area better, we’ll be able to set something up a little better next time I’m in that neck of the woods :)

You can change the name to whatever you want but it will always be Ensight to me…

Just like Technosailor was a name that derived from the fact I was going into the navy and that I was a techie and now I’m not in the Navy s it still doesn’t fit…it has become a moniker.

I think you should stay with Ensight because it is what it is and it will always be what it is…

    Just my take

Who are these ball-talking Vancouverites? And it’s a peculiar phrase, isn’t it–balls to the wall? I wonder what the origin is. Regardless, I (obviously) approve of the new name. After all, it’s all about building the brand of you.

This suits you well. It’s also refreshing and engaging. The new look gets applause from Jane and Yvonne. We like the way you think, Jeremy. And, we like your pics. Cheers.
