Happy Kids’ Day
I’m not sure why, but on this (my second) Father’s Day, I didn’t feel like it was really about me. I didn’t really feel like taking time for myself (though I had to, the book is still due in just a few days) and I didn’t really want a big party.
I just wanted to spend time with my boys and with Shannon. I was holding Evan in church today and this huge sense of love just welled up. I cried a bit. I realized how great it was to not just be a dad, but to be his dad.
I feel that way about Alex too.
TDavid’s post (thank you for including me mate, I’m honoured) reminded me of this.
I have two great, amazing, awesome sons. Evan’s hitting 2 next month, so he’s a bit of a handful when he’s tired or grumpy. But, overall, he’s just so much fun and so alive and so smart and so curious and so talkative (I love it when he comes home and tells me all about his day “shoes, coat, car, water, wee, ladder, boys, ladies, truck, hat, daddy!” being roughly translated as “I had to get my shoes and coat on so we could take the car to the water, play at the park, go down the slide and OH there were boys and ladies there and I saw a truck and had my hat on and hi daddy!”).
Alex is such a happy boy. He’s always glowing, always smiling, always talking.
Both boys make it my honour to be their dad. I couldn’t ask for a better job, and the fact that I get to do my “real job” at home just makes it all the more special.
Sadly, Father’s Day was poorly timed this year. I took some family time today, but I do have to do about 2 hours of book work today.
Hopefully I can convey the depth of my love to my boys and Shannon today. It’s the least I can do. Hopefully you remember to love the ones you love today too.

Congratulations Jeremy! Sounds like you deserve your day of recognition whether you feel so or not :-) That sounds like a pretty articulate 2-year old you have there (not that I have any basis to judge, mind you).

Cherish every day you can with them Jeremy. They grew up all too fast! My two sons, Jonathan and Alan, are 20 and 23.
I still remember the day they were born like it was yesterday. The youngest contracted spinal meningitis when he was about 18 months old. We didn’t think he was going to make it. Ha! You should see him now, 205 lbs., 6′2″, and strong as an ox.
Ah, I didn’t mean to use this as a bully pulpit to pontificate on my sons. Just sharing a little Dad-day cheer!
