I’m not vouching for the validity of any of this. However, Microsoft has come up with some information regarding the expected performance of both systems. Unsurprisingly, it’s tilted in Microsoft’s favor.

Sure, at the end of the day games and services will win the race. But, great graphical performance sure helps. Especially when certain developers (ahem, Valve) won’t develop games (ahem, Half Life 2) for your system (ahem, PS2).

Power is important.

Here’s Major Nelson’s posting of Microsoft’s take:

Part 1 of 4: Overall Performance numbers
Part 2 of 4: CPU Performance
Part 3 of 4: GPU Performance
Part 4 of 4: Bandwidth Performance

Without even having looked at the comparison, I can already say I don’t believe it. The same goes for anything Sony posts. Or anyone else for that matter. At the moment real fair comparisons aren’t possible, imo.

I’m going to wait until the XBox 360 and the PS3 are both release, so the real computer mags and gaming sites can do some independent benchmarks and reviews. That should give a much more unbiased view, and I’ll probably buy the ‘winner’ (depending on the price, of course).

I’d rather play a game then watch the game play itself. Graphics isnt everything.

Sony seem to have made a pigs-ear of they’re domination in the music player market, maybe the gaming platform is next?!

Never thought I’d say that as a once loyal Sony user but that shockingly bad SonicStage software they developed was enough to shatter my confidence.

I think old Bill has made the right move getting Valve on side…

Old Bill made another good move getting on Square-Enix good side with FFXI as well. The future is very bright for the 360 :D

don’t believe everything you hear, yes?

I think it is a biased opinion to a point, but also has some truth. MS built their machine soley for making video games, whereas I think Sony had this new idea for a chip and just figured they might as well use it for their next machine.

MS did admit to the Cell chip being amazingly powerful in that article, but it’s really more geared to scientific applications that crunch numbers soley, and IBM even demo’d the cell chips in this light at E3, and Sony has said they have built a “super computer”.

So why do we buy gaming rigs from Dell instead of their more powerful Workstations to play games on ? Because the gaming rigs perform better even if they can’t process the same amount of FLOPS…

I think MS has a chance at this round, as long as people don’t buy sony just because it’s sony…

XBOX will win this round. i can bet some money on dat. Sony is just a lying company. imean how can they show their game on real time (killzone) when the final specs for the console is not out yet. makes no sense. XBOX actuallyshowed their system and graphics and at the end that will give them the win.

Most of my friends that I have asked about this subject said sony will be better simply because ps2 and ps1 were good, and they dont like the fact that microsoft is trying to take over this market as well basicly every other electronic genre, I think people need to keep an open mind on the two systems, and make their judgements only when the DEFINATE specs are out. Personaly I’d rather buy xbox 360 because its american, and because the last xbox was much more powerful than then ps2.

i KNOW xbox 360 is better. better GPU, better CPU, and five times the bandwith. I KNEW ALL OF THIS BEFORE READING MICROSOFT’s RESPONSE

360 will win this console battle, because there is no way that Sony’s games, like the Killzone clips are real gameplay. And time will tell. I’m sticking with the richest man in the world, GO Bill GO. He’s the richest man in the world for a reason.
