How Many Fortune 500’s Blogging?

by Jeremy Wright on March 7th, 2005

Rick wondered out loud how many were blogging.

He figured it was close to 3-6%. He couldn’t find the list. Here is the list of Fortune 500 Companies [this link is a paid link].

From this list, here are the ones I know of who are blogging internally, externally, in management, etc:

GM
Sun Microsystems
Microsoft
Google
Yahoo!
Boeing
CitiGroup
IBM
HP
Time Warner
Dell, Inc.
Lockheed
Wells Fargo
Intel
Delphi
Merril Lynch
Disney (hugely, internally)
Motorola
FedEx
Mitsubishi
Cisco
Raytheon
Haliburton
Kimberly-Clark
UAL
Delta
Winn-Dixie
MBNA
Toys R Us
Nike
Pepsi
Texas Instruments
Oracle
Avon
Apple Computer
Shell
McGraw-Hill
Radio Shack
Starbucks
New York Times

Now, this obviously isn’t complete. My suspicion is that at least 10% and as much as 20% are using blogs in some way. However, I can’t confirm that.

The above list is a fairly comprehensive one of the companies I’m trying to get in touch with for my business blogging book. If you know anyone there who’d like to talk, feel free to email me.

Also, if you know of other companies blogging I’d love to hear about it (Fortune 500’s, I already have a decent list of other companies that is over 1000 strong).

Edit: I’ve had a few comments and such that Maytag is blogging at the Ka-Thunk blog. I knew about this blog, but it must have slipped my mind. My apologies!
