The first step to weight loss is making a commitment, not necessarily to a regime but to yourself. The second step is make short-term goals. I will pick all the important events coming up in the next 3 months and put a target weight for each one. The third step is to just DO IT. Work out, eat right and keep your promise to yourself. Good luck!

Hey Jeremy

Loosing weight can be a lot of work, but it is so rewarding! I declared my intentions to loose 25 pounds recently, and I'm doing well. My weight is published *every day* on my blog (right side) along with any exercise I've done.

Public accountability is a *great* motivator.

I'd say get a dog. I've always had one and she's makes sure I take her for two walks a day or she pesters the life out of me. So everyday come, rain, shine, snows and blizzards I'm out there with her. As I live in a hilly area I get a cardio work-out too.
They're great companions too to walk with and repay you ten fold in other ways.

I'd say you hit it dead on when you said first thing is build habits. That's the only thing that'll keep someone going. I'm so busy, that I let my workout regimen slide off my schedule completely. Not a good habit for staying healthy.

I agree it's important to set a realistic goal. However, if you are providing a tip to others than it's recommended that your starting goal be 10% of your body weight - which is exactly what you did!

Great job, and good luck! Look forward to more reports, and thanks for the incentive.
