Well I'm new to Adsense. I run a news site for my home town and some of the ads turning up just don't apply - they are aimed more at a national audience.

I think there was a time when AdSense was a success and did what it was desgined to do but like everything (especially on the Internet) it didn't last forever and Google haven't kept AdSense at the cutting edge. There are new ways of advertising online coming out every day and Google could easily embrace these but at this point, they seem intent on flogging the dead horse that is AdSense.

Good post - I think the opacity of the system and its decisions, starting with the revenue share and ending with the "not sharing performance data" is what is really annoying and disheartening. There is still such potential for them to get it right; but we will see if they ever will.

Awesome post. You've nailed it IMO. Except for one thing... doesn't matter how many people complain, no-one's listening.

The whole CTR / quality score thing is a heist. You could use sensationalist tactics in ads to get a higher CTR (and therefore lower costs) - but this would result in poor conversions. You only want clicks from people who are actually likely to buy. Why should Google punish advertisers for targeting buyers as opposed to surfers?
