  • @davewiner’s right (http://snurl.com/23f1w). Putting DEMO and TC50 same weekend = less coverage for all startups. FAIL @ TC50′s scheduling. #
  • @kristaneher – sorry, you don’t ring a bell. But, I’m nice, so I’ll follow you anyways. </sarcasm> :-D … Hey, how goes?!!! #

b5media April Job Openings – Director Tech, Director Content, etc

Alright, due to a crazy period of just “getting stuff done” I haven’t posted any job openings in awhile, however, we have a bunch of big ones, a handful of small ones, etc, so I figured it was about time!

Feel free to pass this to friends or apply – even if you/they aren’t entirely qualified (as we’re expecting to do at least a dozen hires this year, so having smart people chat with us is a Good Thing!).

Here are the positions, and a brief description (full JD available on request!):

  • Director of Technology: Everyone knows by now that Aaron’s moving onto bigger (and personal) projects, so it should come as no surprise that we’re seeking someone new for this. Long and the short is that we want a rockstar to lead all of our development, projects, services and forward-facing projects. While we love to hire “up”, in this case we want someone who’s going to rock out with his or her, erm, talents. This is ideally a Toronto-based position (we can move people), as the individual will be a core part of the senior and strategic team. Love of and knowledge of front-end technologies, principles, practices and standards is key. Ditto for dev principles, practices, standards, etc. Basically we want someone who bridges the gap between hardcore development and fantastic user experience design.
  • Director of Content: For the past several months we’ve been working with a fantastic consultant to help mature and drive our editorial policies and practices forward. While we’re a blog company, because so much of our audience is non-bloggy, we end up having to look and operate like a mid-sized mainstream media organization (hopefully without all the red tape). Ideally we’d want someone who knows and loves blogs but has serious experience in the mainstream media world. Someone who knows the red tape but just wishes they could cut through it all to just Get Stuff Done. Again, we’re looking for someone to jam out with their talents. And, again, this is ideally a Toronto-based position, though we can move folk. More than anything, though, the right candidate is key. And, again, this is a key strategic position so expect to be involved at all levels of the company!
  • Director of Finance: While this isn’t quite as sexy of a position (to me… I’m guessing the ideal candidate will think it’s at least as sexy as Moulin Rouge), it’s incredibly core to the company’s growth. We’ve seen 2 kinds of candidates: pure backend CA-type folk and high-level strategic folk. Ideally we’d want the best of both worlds: someone with the financial background to give everyone comfort both around finances and around processes (as we grow into a much larger company) and someone who wants to contribute at the strategic level.
  • Summer Interns: We’ve done a summer intern program since we started, and will continue to this year. We can use interns across media, video, admin, journalism, marketing and business administration. We provide the tools, location, team, transportation allowance and a great environment.

So those are our current positions. Feel free to repost, promote, etc. If you run a website and introduce us to the right candidate, we’re happy to give you 10K$ in free advertising as a thank-you :-)
