I got in on the Halo 3 Beta via purchasing Crackdown (the next day I got an invite via the Friends & Family program, but turned it down figuring someone else needed it more).
I’ve played about 2 hours worth, and here are my impressions:
1. It’s still Halo, which is good. You hop in in seconds and you’re basiclaly set.
2. New maps are decent.
3. Graphics aren’t that much better than Halo 2, but should get spit and polish (there’s, like, no bump mapping, blooming, etc)
4. The single player will be a lot of fun, as will online coop
5. At this point, I’m not convinced I want to plop 60-90$ down on it…

I’ve always considered Halo to consist of two seperate experiences: the single- and multiplayer one. Not being much of a fan of Halo 2’s multiplayer experience, I can agree with you on your first impressions based on the Halo 3 beta.
However, knowing how much I loved the singleplayer experience in Halo 2, there is no doubt I will plop 55 euro on it. I can’t imagine the singleplayer not being significantly better in the graphics department either. It’s not uncommon for multiplayer heavy games to make this decision. Afterall, graphics just aren’t as important in multiplayer as they are in singleplayer.

I’m a gaming novice, but it was alright. It really seemed like it was the same old Halo, in a new box. I got my butt handed to me online, was that you?

Ahh, I may never know now, cuz I wasn’t paying attention. I was too busy trying not to get owned. I’m such a newbie. But, like you, I am still not convinced to plunk down that kinda money for it yet. Crackdown, however, everyone loves.
