Does Healthy Pizza Exist?
We’re having pizza for lunch today. Not the best fatblogging thing, but my wife just cut the end of her finger off and (understandably) doesn’t feel like cooking. And I’m flat-out catching up from the trip and writing reports so don’t have time to help out. So pizza it is.
We’re wondering if there’s a healthy way to order pizza… We’ve ordered whole wheat crust, light tomato sauce (in amount and in calories) and mushrooms, pineapple and grilled chicken as topping.
Any thoughts from other fatbloggers/fitness/nutrition folk? FitDay says this is about 200 cals/slice, which isn’t that bad (puts me at 1100 calories for the day if I have 3 slices, which is fine since we’ll do tuna casserole for supper, which is only 350 cals).
Input?

Yes, there is Big Mamma’s Boy pizza that does delivery. You can get whole wheat crust, gluten free, thin crust, medium crust. 1/2 cheeze, whatever you want. It is the healthiest pizza delivery in Toronto, and it is AWESOME.

I think that’s like asking for fat-free chocolates. I can eat Grilled Chicken in Spicy BBQ Sauce for 200 calories per slice (See DWLZ for various pizzas) so, although it might seem that whole wheat and light sauce is helping .. it’s the whole package that counts.
What I do (counting WW Points) is take the DIAMETER of a pizza .. square it … multiply by 0.7854 to get the total AREA .. and then take 1 point for every 2.38 AREA units. My proof is over HERE
My wife claims that less toppings is better, less points, but I’ve proven otherwise. The only thing that seems to ring true most of the time is that thin crusts have less points than thick crusts .. and don’t buy pizza with cheese in the crust!~

Hi Jeremy.
I’ve got a blog coming over to b5 soon on hardcore fitness so I want to suck up to the bosses as much as possible.
Pizza is a great weight loss choice! Everything about it is healthy! Good decision for dinner.
Haha.

Seriously, though, the worst thing about any pizza is the salt.
People often think that because salt has no sugar or calories that it isn’t bad for weight loss but in actual fact it is one of the worst offenders.

A slim friend and his wife order pizza (Ledo’s, DC/MD/VA chain) with 1/2 the cheese. I’ve tried it and had no idea anything was cut… meaning too much is probably used to begin with.

Mushrooms and pineapple on the same pizza? Really? Wild folks, you are. :) I don’t think anywhere around here offers whole-wheat crust. We make pizza at home about once a week (though everyone’s fingers are fine around here!) so I can control the amount of cheese, pile on tons of veggies to make the pizza look full, and use turkey pepperoni or turkey bacon on it (neither too good for the sodium, I’m sure). I wish pizza places around here would offer the turkey stuff, now that I’ve gotten used to it; it’s amazing the difference in calories and fat.

You can cut out a lot of calories just by dropping the meat and some cheese. I used to buy premade frozen veggie pizzas. It was amazing to compare the label of the meat pizza that was made by the same company. I was glad that the veggie pizzas were so tasty!
