A Note to My Boys On (Off) Father's Day
I’d intended to write this yesterday, father’s day, but life got in the way. In the hopes that all of history won’t see the irony, I’m writing it now.
My boys. Evan Christopher Wright. Alexander Eden Wright.
You both make me smile more, laugh more, think more and ultimately feel more alive than anyone I’ve ever known, besides your mamma. You are unique, and yet I see myself reflected in you in so many ways. Evan, when you’re tired and you do something repetitive for half an hour, totally lost in it, I see myself. Alex, when your eyes light up and your smile fills the room when I enter it, I see myself.
I am so honoured, proud and made bigger by being your daddy.
Evan, you are growing up so fast, and it is so wonderful! Yes, you’re still daddy’s little boy, but seeing you playing soccer, doing crafts, negotiating for what you want and making up games is so much fun to watch! The other day was your second soccer game and you scored, passed and barely picked up the ball with your hands at all! I felt like yelling ‘THAT’S MY BOY’ the entire game! It’s hard to believe you are almost 3 (just 1 month to go!)! You are so full of life, so creative and so destined for greatness. And while I love all of that, I love you most of all for just being you. Totally unique, totally creative and totally your own person. I’m so proud of you! You’re my favorite Evan ever :-D
Alex, you are such a bundle of life and joy! It’s impossible to describe you to people who haven’t met you yet, because no description does justice to that sense of mischief, fun and laughter that you always carry with you. I love teaching you words (“San DALS!”). I love it when you say no to every single question, even when you mean yes. “Alex, do you want to go for a walk?” “NO!” Then hearing you run to the door yelling “Walk Walk Walk Walk!!!” is such a joy! I can’t imagine life without your smile, your agreeableness and your… waddle ;-) You are the best son any dad can ask for, and I am so glad to have you for my own. I love you boy!

“I am so honoured, proud and made bigger by being your daddy.”
I believe the correct term, in Springfield, is “embiggened.”
Happy belated Father’s Day. :0
