In the last week, I have received 10 inquiries from people wanting me to sell their blog, valuate their blog, etc. While it’s certainly flattering, I have to be really, really honest.

I simply don’t have time to become a blog broker right now. It’s not that I’m afraid of it -I’ve been a salesman before, it’s not a bad job, and selling blogs certainly would be interesting. It is simply that I don’t have time. The Blog Herald sale, while a lot of fun, took up more than 30 hours of my time over a 5 day period.

That is time I simply don’t have to spare. I’m building a great little blog media company and having a lot of fun doing it. I simply have no plans to become a full-time blog broker, nor do I have plans to charge for blog valuations.

That said, I am happy to hear about any opportunity. I’ll be honest and say I probably won’t take them right now and that for the vast majority of people, going to the Sell Your Site portion of sitepoint.com/forums is probably your best way to go. For blogs that earn in excess of 1000$/month, I’m willing to listen. Again, I’ll probably say no because I’m busy building my company, but I’m willing to listen and offer some friendly advice.

So, no, I’m not becoming a blog broker, nor am I planning on launching (yet another) micro-industry. It would be fun to say I had the time, but I simply don’t.

Sorry to all those who were hoping to suddenly cash out big on their blogs, but the truth is that most people aren’t actually ready to sell their blogs, and want such huge valuations for blogs that are only earning a few hundred dollars per month (one blogger wanted 25,000$ for a blog earning 200$ per month) that it simply isn’t worth it for anyone.

That isn’t to say that selling a blog can’t be worthwhile. I’ve been involved in about 20 blog sales over the last 18 months or so. But the truth is that most blogs aren’t very saleable, would crumble without the main author there and aren’t very desirable as properties.

If yours is, and you want to talk, drop me a line. But you might want to have a go at selling it on your own first :)
