I recently got an invite to sms.ac (the evil of evil SMS companies). Who was it from? My recently deceased best freaking friend. Who didn’t do cellphones in the first place. And wouldn’t blind invite people like that.
The bastards…
Spam’s bad. Spam from fake people is worse. Spam with friends names is downright awful. But dead friends?
Note: Yes, I searched SMS.ac for someone with Will’s name. No such user. No such luck.
The bastards…

There is a pretty lengthy discussion of SMS.ac and their practices over at my site, MobileTracker. Seems like a lot of people are in agreement with you on this one. I haven’t signed up before because of everything I have heard about it, but they claim to have 40 million registered members (I don’t believe that!).
Also a lot of people have told me that they abuse billing for premium SMS messages. For example you can be a part of a group and each time you get a message (from let’s say one of the 1000 people in the group) you get charged a quarter. So they make $250 for each message sent… But the bad part is these ex-employees I have talked to said they were paid to send fake messages and thus make more money for SMS.ac! Incredible!
It’s really an interesting read to learn about these guys, I would suggest heading over to RipOffReport.com and check out their articles on them.

That’s…. just…. wrong. A bit creepy too.
Did you ever follow up with sms.ac? I wouldn’t even hazard to give my email address to those people.

there’s only one thing to do when you get an eMail from SMS.ac, select it & click the “SPAM” button(or JUNK button depending on your email application). They send out emails regularly to those in their mailing list & never stop, I get an eMail from them every 1 week or so, but it just ends up in my Bulk Mail folder, never cluttering my Inbox any more!!

Is it possible to put a voodoo curse on an internet entity???

I get spam from them at least twice a week. Nowadays it’s deleted straight from the server.

I get like a spam to sign up every couple of weeks. Those bastards. Now I just blacklist their email address.

I’ve been getting invites to their site “from” WIll for months now. Very disturbing.

Well, they are looking for a VP of PR – maybe this will be the first thing to fix on his/her agenda.
With good PR, comes good community relations. Or, at least you hope.

DO NOT sign up to this website! Once you have signed up (like i stupidly did) they bombard you with texts that cost about 50p a time saying that (for instance) ‘ajay is inviting you to be his friend see him at sms.ac/nameofperson . STOP? text STOP FRND to 85021′ but when you text to that number it doesn’t stop. They carry on sending you texts. IT IS ROBBERY! I didn’t ask for these messages and yet I have to pay for them! I have recently deleted my account but we’ll wait and see if it works!
