1000 Situps
When I was younger, I was a rather fit kind of guy. I didn’t necessarily work out a lot, but I was active. In my early 20s, I lost a lot of that due to work.
Now that we’re on the east coast, though, I’m finding myself active again… But, my body is still in its “early 20s” state. Not awful, but I could stand to lose about 20-30 pounds.
Jake and I are eventually going to join a gym and start working out regularly, but finances are up in the air right now so we’re waiting. Instead of just sitting here feeling sorry for myself, I’ve decided to challenge myself to do 1000 situps by the end of Friday.
No idea if I can succeed in this, since I can’t even do more than 10 at a time right now, but I just pumped out the first 25, so we’ll see how it goes.
I figure if I can do 1000 situps this week, I’ll try for 1000 situps, and 1000 pushups next week. If nothing else, this’ll keep me focussed, and it’ll keep me meeting self-goals, which is always good.

Wow, um…suddenly I am getting a bit nervous about working out with you. 1000 sit-ups and 1000 pushups by friday? Alright, i’ll try too, and we’ll see how it goes.

No, 1000 by THIS Friday. If I actually manage to do that, I’ll add the pushups to the mix for next week.
I’ve only done 50 so far Jake, don’t worry too much. To hit this, I have to average 200 a day ;-)

I’d be careful with pushing yourself too hard too sudden.. you might end up injuring your muscles. Although stomach muscles are stronger and can endure more than other muscles, a sudden and forced change can be bad.
I’d suggest a target of 50 or 60 a day ( break it out to 5 x 10 reps ), and add 10 each week.

I’ve been doing 2 x 10, and 1 x 5, so I’ve done my first 100 already. It’s not too bad. A bit of burn, but nothing too intense at this point. I’ll probably start stepping that up tomorrow or whatnot.

It all depends on how you define a “sit up” and a “push up.”
If you think about it, a “sit up” could be any gesture that moves you from a prone position. I.e. get in and out of bed 1000 times a week. C’mon, you can do it. The naps are the easy part.
A “push up” might be defined as any force applied by one’s arms to ‘push’ something up against gravity. I.e. pick up your pencil 1000 times a week.
And… I’m all for you.

That is a great challenge; I think I will try it too, but only with 200. I’m lazy.

Sit-ups: easy. Push-ups: not so. :)

Good idead but when doing sit ups dont forget to check that your doing them correctly, make sure you do each sit up slowly rather than fast as that works other muscles, and also a personal tip: make sure you do the sit ups on a padded surface as i used to large amounts of sit ups without a padded surface, i did it on carpet at first….. and well you can kinda guess what happened, i was getting painful burns on my lower back and the skin was being ripped lol
But anyway Good luck in achieving your goal.

Yeah, situps are easy. I usually do about 100 a day = 700 a week. Any more than that would be pushing myself too far.
However push-ups are hell for me, I can’t do more than 20 a day.
