A Personal Blog
New Bio? Whatcha Think?
I have to come up with a final bio for the book (for Amazon.com and Amazon.ca and such). I wanted something which expressed what I do, why I’m fit to write the book and the type of person I am.
How’s this sound?
Jeremy is an author, business consultant and writer with a passion for blogging, communications, time management and really anything which makes people’s lives easier. He has spoken at dozens of conferences and works with companies from Fortune 500s to home based businesses to understand the power of blogging, online marketing and personal productivity for their business and lives. His blog, Ensight.org, is read by more than 250,000 people every month, in spite of his every attempt to get them to leave. He lives with his gorgeous wife and two amazing sons, Evan and Alex, in New Brunswick, Canada.
If anyone has any better ideas, I’m all ears. I HATE writing bios. And I suck at it, so I’m totally open.

Hmmm…is it weird to name your children but not your wife? (Unless she prefers the privacy.) It struck me odd upon reading it.
The opening and second sentences sound good.
I know you’re going for charming self-deprecation in your sentence on Ensight, but I think you go a bit over the top with the trying to “get them to leave” comment. That sounds more arrogant than charmingly self-deprecating. I doubt the average bio reader is going to get it.

Conversational, but I would eliminate “really”. Should not use an adverb in this context. Otherwise, good deal.

Same comments as Elisa. You might want to touch on a couple of the things that a non-reader of Ensight might recognize – the guy who got dooced, the guy who “sold” a blog on e-Bay, etc.
I think it has a nice mix of business-like bumph and personal details, so people know they’ll be reading something from someone who is serious, but doesn’t take himself too seriously.

Nice bio, but what is the difference between “author” and “writer” in this?
(The others have said anything else I noticed.)

Sounds good to me.

Maybe I’ve missed all the posts on time management that you’ve proffered, Jeremy?
Just a friendly suggestion: you might want to install that plugin that groups articles that you list in your bio so new readers that end up here can read up on the things that you highlight in your bio.
I’d drop the pretentious “trying to get them to leave” thing either. You should be trying to get us to stay.
Who’s kidding who though, we know that’s exactly what you are shooting for! LOL

Drop all the adjectives and adverbs and it sounds just fine :)

I agree with not naming your wife being strange, and the “writer” and “author thing”… maybe “blogger” and “author”. The whole “in spite of his every attempt to get them to leave” doesn’t seem like a good first impression. I’ve heard a LOT of wittier stuff out of you than that.

Hehe, maybe you should hire a PR expert to write your bio. ;)
