$750 Off Dell Laptops!
May 24th
Well, it’s end of year for Dell again. Time for massive, massive savings.
Order any Dell Inspiron laptop over 1400$ (US) and get 750$ off.
Go here Use coupon: VRSG541NMGQ800
It’s too bad my credit card limits are so low, otherwise I could get a great laptop for 1200$. Ah well, hopefully someone else can take advantage of this monster deal.
Sure, it artificially boosts Dell’s sales figures for the year, but who cares? 750$ off baby! ;-)
New Canadian Journalist Blog
May 23rd
Well, well, looks like my talk at the CAJ has borne some fruit. Several of the journalists in attendance have launched a new blog (aptly title Canadian Journalist).
So far the content’s good. I’d like them to serve full text feeds, but I’m not going to complain (since this is day 2).
If you’re interested in journalism, particularly in Canada, you could do worse than subscribing to Canadian Journalist :)

Staying in New Brunswick
May 23rd
This weekend we made the decision: we’re going to stay here in St. Stephen, New Brunswick. This also means that the variety of job opportunities I’ve had creep up have now been declined (with thanks for the opportunity, of course).
There were two key questions burning in my brain as I poured over the opportunities, the town and our future. On Thursday night (probably not too coincidentally after finding out about Will’s death), I realized that I couldn’t take a job in the regular workforce right now. I realized that too much of me was looking at working for myself and with others, that going to work FOR others would pose some problems. Chief among them was that I’d feel like I was leaving stuff undone and incomplete in this area of my life, and so I wouldn’t be able to give 150% (or more) to the new job. And, to me, that simply wasn’t fair.
The companies who’d made offers, asked for talks and pitched me were all fantastic companies that anyone would be honoured to work for. And I was honoured to be talking to them.
As a result, I couldn’t take anything where I couldn’t give them everything.
So, I’ll be self employed, or whatever this is called for the foreseeable future.
As a result of the decision not to take a job, the next major decision was where to live. We’d come out here trying to figure out if we wanted to stay. The community here has been incredibly warm and welcoming, the town is the right size, and the border guards don’t hate me (though I did have one altercation when they found out I was “that blogging guy”).
We like it here. So, we’re staying.
We have our eye on a house, however we don’t have the cash for it now. We’ll see what this year holds though, as you never know what’ll happen.
So, several big life decisions made. The next obstacle is a financial one. Thankfully, paycheques for work done, book advance, finders fees and other things are coming in during the next month which should mean we’re set for at least the next 6 months.
It’s been an interesting period of transition over the last 3-4 months. It seems like we’ll now begin settling down.
Thanks to everyone for everything during this period. It’s ALL been much appreciated. I’d name you all, but that’d make this the longest post in Ensight history. And I’m saving that for the raw text of my book ;-)
