I hung out last night with Travis and the Blogaholics last night (Travis has already blogged about it).

It was good, we went to see a band managed by Kris (The Black Tories). It was their first gig, to launch their first CD.

Kris apparently had a trick or two up his sleeve, as the guy who opened the night was… Well, he had to have been a musical genius in order to produce sounds and songs which were as bad as they were. If not, someone really needs to tell him he sucks. No, really. Normally I’d be really kind about another musician, but it’s hard when he seemed to think he’d done so well (he was misinterpreting grimaces and flinching as smiling and clapping, I think).

But, as I said, I think this was planned. I think Kris was warming us up with the worst band to hit the stage since The 12 Ninjas (you don’t want to know). After the crap guy went off, I think I would have applauded for just about anything. Thankfully, The Black Tories were really, really good. The drummer could have used some fermentation, but the rest of the band was really, really tight. I really loved the music. The lyrics were pretty damned simple, but nobody cared. The music rocked.

Congrats to Kris. I’ll be playing some of the music in upcoming podcasts (with permission of course), which is really cool.

It was a great night. I drank beer by the liter and vodka by the 8 ball. Good times ;-)
