Book Progress

Category: From My LifeJeremy Wright @ 10:39 am

Thought I’d update everyone briefly on the progress of the book. So far everything’s on track. I’m almost halfway done the writing. I would have been done by now, if I hadn’t had my laptop die last month. Ah well, these things happen.

As it stands now, I’m writing 10-20 pages a day (on good days). Hopefully I’ll be done in the next couple of weeks, if not sooner. I did a pagecount today. Can’t tell you what it is (there are competing books and authors out there, and my publisher’s nervous about that – which is fair enough), but I’m happy with where I’m at. I thought it’d be lower, so seeing those nice big digits brought a smile to my face.

Anyways, I’m gonna get back into the thick of it now. Just peeking up for a breath of fresh air :)

    Hey bud – I’m gonna buy your book when it’s done :)
    [dunno if that helps the momentum or not...]

    On average how many pages do you write a day? Without giving a range :p

    It will help my math abit ;)

    I stay pretty close to the 10 page mark, even on bad days.

    Thanks for the data. I am studing so, I am bored.

    Now for the calculations…

    X = 10 (Average)
    n = 14 (Two weeks for second half)
    N = 28 (How many days for the whole book, given n)

    From the 10-20 range and the number of days till you think you will be done we can roughly find a standard deviation of the sample data.

    S = root ((sum (x – X)^2)/n-1) (SD)
    S = 3.316
    Sx = S/root(n) (SD of sample average)
    Sx = Sx * root((N-n)/(n-1)) (Finite population correction)
    Sx = 0.91986

    Now lets do a confidence interval of 95%.

    CI = X +/- t1-0.95/2,n-1 * Sx
    CI = 10 +/- t0.025,13 * 0.91986
    CI = 10 +- 1.987 [8, 12] (roughly)

    So we can be 95% sure that the sample average of pages written per day is between 8 and 12.

    Therefore we can 95% sure that the book will be between 224 pages and 336 pages.

    Or not. Cause the average you gave me, in this case should be 15, not 10 in that given range.

    Thanks for the practice :P

    10 to 20 pages a day? Wow, that’s something! I’m looking forward to to seeing the book when your finished. Have you started a waiting list? ;)
