Whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
My beautiful, smart, talented, lovely, caring, wonderful wife plugged my laptop in this morning to see if it worked and it does!!!!!!!!!!!!
There’s no data on the HDD (which could be due to all the “work” BestBuy was doing on it), but it posted (ie: got to the point where it would have booted up had there been an OS on the drive). Now I just need to find a recovery disk for my Vaio and I’m off to the races. I lost all my data, but at this point I don’t care. I just need a computer to work on, and it looks like maybe, possibly, I might have one!
I’m not getting ALL of my hopes up just yet, but considering I got an estimate for repairs yesterday of 1800$, I’m feeling much, much, much better about the whole situation.
…
Just need to find a recovery disk somewhere now!

Jeremy, definitely consider a data recovery tool… I can’t remember the one I tried once but what once was formatted quickly proved to be all my files.

Jeremy, I spilled good old dihydrogen monoxide on my laptop a few weeks ago, and ever since it has been a nightmare with little things failing here and there. I’ve since replaced the keyboard and the hard drive, but I think the motherboard has a little short somewhere that is now killing my new hard drive. Hopefully it doesn’t nickle/dime you to death….

That’s pretty cool. $1800 for fixes… how much did yuo pay for it to begin with?
