Getting Business Financing
Does anyone know of any sites (specifically communities) with information on securing financing and such? Obviously I’m not asking for any particular reason, right? If anyone has experience in this area, I’d love to chat as well.

Try the business development bank

never used them, I’ve just been to some of their seminars.
Good luck on whatever it is that you’re doing :)

Yeah, I already pinged them. But a community (forum or such) would be ideal, as there are some interesting things going on that I’d like feedback on (from folk more experienced than me).

In Australia we have mortgage brokers. I’m not sure if they exist there. Basically you go to an independant person who has access to hundreds of lenders. They punch in your situation (ie savings, income, how much you want, etc etc) and it spits out possible lenders that fit your criteria.
The broker is then paid by the lender a percentage of the amount borrowed and you then deal with the lender directly from that point on.
So it costs you nothing but hooks you up with the best loan. Some banks dislike them though. I guess it cuts into their bottom line.

maybe have a word to Jason Calicanis – seems he’s been talking to VCs lately.

I just spoke with the BDC, and they only finance businesses who are leasing commercial space or own their own property (ie: not home-based businesses).
