Dropping the "C"
I’ve basically decided to drop my middle “C” from my name. I’m not entirely sure why I started using it some 5-7 years ago. I think it was because I was young, inexperienced and wanted a way to sound older and more distinguished. Kind of like a virtual moustache. It didn’t really bother me until recently, as I rarely heard it used. I mean, I never introduce myself as “Jeremy C. Wright”. I’m just “Jeremy” most of the time, “Jeremy Wright” if I feel like being really pompous.
The C first bothered me when I started doing speaking again early this year. It was what I’d said my name was. So it was how people introduced me, including when speaking or panelling. I always cringe.
It reached a new level of annoyance when I saw the cover for my upcoming book on blogging, for business folk. It looked completely out of place, amateur and useless.
So, I’ve decided to drop it. It may take me a while to iron it out of all of my correspondence, and it might take even longer to change the habit of typing it in for comments on various blogs. But, I am dropping it.
Finally ;-)

I believe it’s Christopher.
Or possibly, Cacophonous.

Yeah, the W is a pain for typing “NathanWwong.com”.

How pedestrian.

I rather like the middle initial, but, whatever keeps you sane :)

So what is the C for?
Cornelius?

I use my middle initial because it inflates my word count when I’m submitting content to other sites ;)
In all seriousness, it’s my name and I’m proud of it. I have an advantage that my name is pretty unique (chrispian) and still I use it. Would think that the “C” would help reduce the confusion at the bookstore when people are looking for your book.
Besides, bloggers should remain pretentious so we can be part of the club. I know it was a rule when I signed up ;)

You know Jeremy, a moustache doesn’t make you look more distinguished, it makes you look like a NASCAR fan. Sorry to the moustached folks out there and the NASCAR fans too, I think. ;)

You don’t want to know what “C” is short hand for here in Australia, couldn’t repeat it, I’d be banned :-)

did the ‘C’ stand for Cletus?

I’ll just step out here and end all speculation. It stood for Canadian, k? ;-)

I just read about you dropping your “C”, but your blogs after that still sign with the C. Are you like this for all your promises? hope not!

I said it’d be hard to break the habit. It’s a 10-year old habit. It’ll take a few weeks / months to get used to this :)
