Trying to Go Without the Computer
Well, I didn’t quite make it the whole weekend. I was probably on half a dozen times. My wife wasn’t very impressed. I’m sure this means I’m addicted, but I’m not sure I want treatment.
Anyways, one of the reasons I was on is that I finally, finally got a laptop that works. A gorgeous Sony Vaio. So far I’m very happy with it, but I’ll give it a few days before pronouncing it “dreamy”.
I managed to pickup Burnout 3 on Friday and played a fair amount of it this weekend. All I can say is “wow”. Every review I’d read said it was great. But it’s hard to describe the completely infantile joy of crashing into an intersection full of cars at 200mph and watching the havoc.
I’m sure I’ll be buying this at some point. I haven’t tried online, but the multiplayer is fantastic as well.
I’ve got a busy day today, expect lots of posts. And, I’ll be online all day so feel free to Skype / MSN me.

Try really turning off the computer for a weekend. Really. Unplug it (or them, if you have several). Put the keyboard and mouse on a high shelf in your closet. Resist the temptation to reconnect everything “just for a minute.”
Really. The world doesn’t come crashing down. You get out more. Your e-mail piles up, but so what? I do it from time to time, sometimes (when going on vacation) for a week or more:

If you find you simply _can’t_ do it, take some more drastic measures. Ship your computer to a friend or relative for a week, and tell them not to let you have it back. It’s worth taking a break now and then.

Burnout 3 rocks! My wife got it for me for Christmas, and it has become my new favorite xBox game, replacing Burnout 2.

Nice lil laptop there! I’d offer to race you with mine, but I haven’t done the RAM upgrade yet. I believe I have the only Fujitsu Siemens laptop in Canada, lovingly hand-made just for me by a master European craftsman geek. Seriously though… even the best things in life become sweeter with a bit of a break from consumption. Absence, heart fonder etc you know.
