Life Plan? No Laptop…

Category: From My LifeJeremy Wright @ 5:52 pm

Well, we’ve decided. The issue was that we couldn’t do financing, which limited our options. We have a fair amount of cash right now, but I have 2 trips, and we’re moving to New Brunswick early next year as well.

There were roughly 12,000 issues in the air, and we’ve finally nailed them down. In case anyone cares here’s the plan…

Move to New Brunswick
Sell the car
Don’t buy laptop
Don’t buy house
Keep 3 months worth of expenses in bank account
Pay off furniture
Visit my mom, go to Seattle and go to Whistler while in BC for Northern Voice

It’s not a massive plan, but the planner in me feels loads better knowing this is the direction we’re heading.

That’s too bad about the laptop, but at least you were practical enough to come up with a plan and stick with it.. I know I want to get a laptop too but can’t afford it either. Can keep dreaming 8-)

If you want to do a laptop, I suggest the eBay route. If you don’t mind something not quite sexy, I recommend it.

I nailed my Thinkpad 600X for $425 US. With a new hard drive, some RAM, and a DVD/CD-RW upgrade, I have a rock solid machine for about $700 US.

I run Windows XP out of necessity, but a linux flavour could also keep your costs down.

I would try to get sponsored. I’ll bet you could get someone to offer a laptop for you.

Where in NB are you moving? If you are moving to Fredericton (my hometown, although I’m in Toronto now), that’s a good place for someone like yourself I think. The tech industry is ever expanding there, with a few big developments underway. Plus the free wi-fi network was always a plus for me.

    It’s closer to you ;-)

Warmer, nice small town, friends nearby, good housing, less snow, better ski’ing, etc.
