Okay, so the auction ended. Aaron Junod won the contest.
Now what?
Well, obviously negotiating the sale with the winner (payment method, terms of deal, etc). Also, later today will see a nice little announcement that some people won’t be surprised about.
This is (to be honest) all a little heady. On the recent BlogosphereRadio special Mack said that we were “starting an industry” and that “blog consultants of the future have Jeremy and Darren to thank”.
Yeah, a wee little bit heady.
What are my immediate thoughts? The interest in this auction, and the nearly 10 private deals I’m looking at signing show that there is a market for blog consulting and outsourced blogging (I think I’ve been clear on this in the past that I’m not looking to do “company blogs” where the voice of the company is in fact the most important part).
Also, while this obviously whos that there is value in blogging, the exact amount is uncertain. After all, while my auction closed at 3350$, how much of that was due to companies realizing the press would be invaluable? I don’t know.
I do kn0w that 3 months ago I was blogging for 250$/month. I’m now charging companies between 500-1000$/month. Is that because of my profile or is it because of the realization by companies that blogging is a fair amount of work?
Lots of questions and, sadly, I don’t have a lot of answers. Maybe people far smarter than myself will have those answers.
Finally, I’d like to thank everyone who linked, emailed, talked about this, supported this, didn’t support this and generally allowed this little auction to occupy some of their “mindshare”. I’m honoured by all of it. So thanks.

Now we need to establish a benchmark for blog teachers! I’m thinking that’s the way I’d want to go. I do so love to stand up in front of people and expound ;>)
Would’ve jumped on your bandwagon, but I’m just getting back up to speed after losing my dad last month, and so haven’t had the oomph necessary to go for anything big.
More power to ya! You’re doing us all a fine service!
