The Long Tail Thing
Heard this new meme thing? “The Long Tail”?
Yeah, me too. But I had no idea what it really meant.
Steve Rubel has a great piece on what the whole deal is.
Which reminds me, at some point I got unsub’d from Steve’s feed. Gotta resub :)

The Long Tail also refers to a very popular article in Wired last month. It is the same statistical description to describe different phenomenons.
Be sure to check this out too:

Ah, so I’m out of the loop because I let my Wired subscription lapse. Fair enough. I think I’ll be renewing a bunch of subscriptions in the Spring, and I plan for Wired to be one of those.

That’s funny, because I just wrote about the long tail–from a slightly different perspective. I wrote about Google as an agent of the long tail… which is much less work than pitching your news into the long-tail news curve.

I think the The Long Tail meme spread not because of Wired so much (I let my sub lapse too but still knew of this one article) but because the author of the article spoke at Web 2.0 and it created buzz was picked up by the bloggers in attendence.
