Whoa… Firefox Catching Up…
I checked my stats this morning, as I do every morning. I noticed something odd.
MS Internet Explorer 72% %
Mozilla 9.2 %
FireFox8.8 %
Safari 3.3 %
Netscape 1.9 %
Opera 1.4 %
So, the major non-IE browsers now make up 25% of Ensight’s traffic. Crazy.
Here’s a month-by-month breakdown of how they’ve grown:
September: 22%
August: 20%
July: 18%
June: 16%
In other words, usage has grown fairly steadily, but I never noticed until today. What do you think, end of next year it’s 50%?
Obviously Ensight isn’t indicative of all web traffic (at all), but it’s certainly interesting to watch.

What stats package are you using? People might be masquerading as IE6 when they’re using Opera or another browser and your stats package may not pick up on it, so your figure could be even lower.

Vinnie, I’m using AWStats. IE actually had a higher share on Webalizer, so maybe AWStats is more accurate?

That’s a real groovy trend these days and I really hope it continues – my stats are telling me that around 30% of traffic on my site was viewed using either mozilla or firefox – thumbs up to that!

While I am all for Firefox and love it like a son, you can’t base usage stats of browser preferance (FF over IE in this case) on tech-related sites. I would wager to say a good 60-75% of tech people use Firefox.
What counts is Google. If Google or Yahoo or CNN.com would release their numbers, I think we’d unfortunately be looking at numbers a whole lot less than 30%.

Anyone interested in another small survey might do well to check out EA Games Site. As it stands right now, MSIE is preferred by 44 percent of the people, with FireFox at… get this… 39 percent. Ouch, MS.

Brian, nice. Too bad Activision doesn’t take after EA in this regard.
