An interesting experience today. The “Annual Report on Folk Making more than 50K” was released today. I won’t go into the details, even though it’s public, and I won’t state my opinion (beyond: who cares what someone else makes? If you’re happy with your job, be happy… If you’re not, this won’t push you over the edge).

It was certainly interesting to watch this morning. I’d received one of the Media-released copies of the report so I was braced for this yesterday. I had decided at the time not to talk about it on Ensight because (knowing how many coworkers read this) I didn’t want to be the one to break the news or cause any heartache. It simply wouldn’t sit well with management in light of a recent pay raise request that I’ve made (nothing too drastic, just a reclassification to remove the Junior from my title).

So it was with a light heart that I came in this morning and heard every whining, yelling, huffing, throwing their arms around in rather interesting ways and generally being quite upset. Union folk seemed generally more upset than non-Union folk, but I guess they have their Union Reps to go to war for them (which I’m sure they’ll do).

Sadly, the regional body was already in trouble last year for high pay rates at the senior levels (3 times what the Premier (Governor) makes, in some cases). This years large pay raises for executives certainly won’t help.

I’m fairly sure this’ll just blow over. But it is certainly interesting to watch.
