ResumeWiki is set to launch tomorrow.
I provide this post as a rundown for bloggers to link to in terms of what the project is and where it’s going.
ResumeWiki is a community edited resume centre. You post your profile (goals, etc) and resume the community of peers will give you comments and possible edits. It is about harnessing the power of lots of eyes to help you get your job. It is kind of like Open Source’ing your resume. Less bugs, more potential, less work for the individual (you).
Beyond editing and commenting on your resume, ResumeWiki is also a ResumeWriting and JobHunting resource, with pages like the Recruiting Blogs list, tips on ResumeWriting, JobHunting tips and a ResourceDirectory which includes a list of more than 30 corporate job hunting sites.
Here is the email I sent out earlier announcing the launch:
Good afternoon,
I am emailing you either because you have a job-related blog or because we know each other in some capacity or because I, in my infinite wisdom, felt you might be interested (forgive the ego). If we’ve never met, talked or blogged together, allow me to introduce myself (gawd this sounds spammy, eh? My apologies for that).
I’m Jeremy Wright. I’m a blogger by nature, if not (yet) by profession. I’ve been doing job search blogging and tips for a while. I’ve written for a variety of sites and a handful of magazines.
Recently I needed to update my resume. Instead of simply updating it I wanted the input of friends. But, I didn’t want to do a weird email (kind of like this one, now that I think about it). So, instead I set up a site: www.resumewiki.com.
ResumeWiki is part Resume/JobHunting resource and part “get community input into your resume”. My hope is that this resource will bring the power of communities to resumes. For instance, Anthony Cerminaro now links to his ResumeWiki resume instead of trying to keep his resume up to date on his site: see his ResumeWiki resume here.
Tomorrow, Friday, is ResumeWiki’s public launch date. I’ve had a few testers on the site already, so most of the bugs should be ironed out. Feel free to comment about this, blog about this or tell me to shove off and never contact you again. Don’t worry, I can handle it (I’ll also remove you from my address book, don’t worry).
Anyways, again, apologies for the spamminess of this, but please feel free to utilize the project however you see fit. It’s a bit of a social experiment, so I’m not entirely sure how it’ll end out, but the response so far has been positive enough for me to want to pursue this.
