Gawker Media is rather… down right now.
Apparently the folk at Gawker aren’t impressed.
They’re blaming it on Network Solutions:
Well it seems that Network Solutions (our internet name registrar) has decided to cancel and suspend our primary, life-giving domain Gawker.com because of a failed credit card transaction over a month ago.
Until today, the WhoIs for the domain read:
Record expires on 05-Oct-2004.
As much as I hate Network Solutions (and wonder why Gawker chose them in the first place, given their penchant for the worst customer service in the world), this really doesn’t seem to be a NetSol issue. It really does seem like someone didn’t renew the domain, and so it failed out and it does in fact take several days to make it yours again (with NetSol, other providers are more lenient).
So, while I hate to see any blogger come to harm (nevermind lose money), let’s be fair and honest. Yes, NetSol sucks. But so does whoever forgets to renew their domain name and then complains about it.

Happy (Belated) 2nd Birthday to Gawker
Greg.org has a great spin on Gizmodo : Network Solutions Teaches Gawker a Lesson. More commentary on this, as well as a profusion of Network Solutions observations (to no great surprise, no one has anything at all positive to say
