Poor Me…
Mar 26th
From a conversation with one of the poor saps from this morning, directed to me (obviously):
This message is being sent to you, and only you. Because unlike you, I don’t get off on using a public spotlight to entertain myself, or reassure myself in my own beliefs. You are a little man.
The other guy is great. Having a very good, enlightened conversation with him.
Also (from Guy 1):
I stand by: If its not free, it’s wrong. And I am not talking about that GPL “free” either. Anything encumbered by a license outside of a BSD license is wrong
So consider yourself warned. He’s not kidding either. Alright? ;-)
yeah, I'm in a Good Mood

I can be such an ass sometimes.
Got into work and sent this email to a colleague:
Windows IS Cheaper than xNix (non-MS study for once): http://www.microsoft-watch.com/article2/0,1995,1553620,00.asp
He sent it onto some of his more… Flamboyant friends.
I got this response:
I manage both environments.
I write code for both environments.
I prefer the open environment.
I can choose between M$ and *nix when doing things depending on which OS is better for the task.
Who’s sheltered? :)
I don’t really read much /. anymore, however its a great example of apache/mod_perl…. I wonder what the equivalent M$ site would have cost….
For some reason I decided I’d had enough. It hadn’t even started yet and already I was sick of the guff:
Yuh-huh.
By write code I’m assuming he’s talking PHP-GTK or something useless like that. Sorry, but I measure professionalism and experience by results.
I couldn’t care less about which OS is ‘better’. They are equally suited to different tasks. Write code for both? That doesn’t show objectivity. Manage both? Great.
Prefers open environments? So he loves Mono and C# better than Java, yeah? They are far more open than Java by far.
As far as MS equivalent site. /. is nothing more than a glorified blog. Blog software’s cheap. Microsoft currently has 1000 employees blogging, many of them on blogs.msdn.com. But, hey, if he wants an equivalent CMS-level site, why not take a look at www.dotnetnuke.com. It’s far cheaper than the OSS alternatives.
Good luck, eh? You won’t find me to be an easy pushover by some OSS advocate who thinks counting in binary is fun, and that the Halloween letters are real.
Even if the guy wasn’t in the same province I could probably hear him fuming and spitting at the screen.
More to come. For some reason I’m in a mood to toy a little bit. I swear, I don’t indulge in this very often.
I’ll keep you posted. My office mate is enjoying this so much he’s forwarding it around to a few more of his friends.
IT Manager Tycoon

Ever wanted to be an IT Manager… Without the politics?
Jonathan Hardwick points to a cute little game from Intel which allows you to do just that right down to buying servers, switches and desktops as well as hiring IT staff and keeping them happy.
I’m currently placed in the top 50. I won’t tell you my secrets though ;-)
