IBM & SuSE will be launching a full-scale Linux POS product.
All I can say is FINALLY!
A decent Linux solution is sorely missing, and I’m glad someone has finally stepped up with one.

Linux Pos has been around for sometime, and I can point in the direction on bananapos (www.bananapos.com), that has served me well for the last 2 years. It has never crashed (unlike the windows stuff I used to use). And it only gets better with time, they have never failed to inform of updates, and the product every time adds more than any other has available.
That’s not to say it doesn’t have some quirks and faults, but in a mission critical situation… it’s never failed, ever.

Okay, this is a shameless bit of self publicity, however, the Compnay I work for has been developing and producing a Linux POS solutions for about 12 months now. Its called Gazelle, its used by Budgens in the UK and Krispy Kreme to name but two.
The architecture heritage comes is unique and was designed fromt he ground up for POS and is backed by a number of World Class POS VSP, OEM and ISV.
If you want to have a look at the solutions, we’ll be at Retail Solutions 2004 in the UK on the 8th-10th of June on the PCMS stand ( and possibly a few others )
