Yesterday, a new ad surfaced on top on my ICQ contact list. It was an advertisement for cell phone ringtones. That would have been okay, if it werent for the fact that it was flashing in yellow and red at about 6fps. No, unfortunately, I’m not exaggarating. What the hell are the ICQ people thinking when they are approving these? Anyway, I right clicked on it and choosed “stop animation” and the atrocity stopped. Thank god, I thought. Unfortunately, it started again. 5 minutes later. I clicked stop. 5 minutes later, it started up again. I clicked stop. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I lasted one day with this. It left it totally impossible to use ICQ without going insane. Today, I just downloaded Trillian and got it over with. Nobody screws with my desktop, dammit.

Been using Trillian for quite some time. I just wish it had MSN’s games integrated

Trillian keeps me on all my accounts at once. Who cares if it has games? You can get better ganes than the ones MSN comes with anywhere online! I used to use ICQ, but not anymore: too big of an IM program-with Trillian, you can have unlimited accounts in any of the big-5….it saves on system resources too.

The “ICQ people” are AOL, what do you expect?

Trillian didn’t work out for me last time.
I’ve been trying out Miranda IM (http://miranda-im.org/) which is a free, open source IM client that supports ICQ, MSN, Yahoo IM, Jabber and AIM among other things. I like it so far – it seems light, I like the plugin architecture, and no annoying ads that Mattias mentioned in ICQ.

I use Trillian, but also keep Yahoo IM open. Most of my contacts are on Yahoo and I have 2 accounts with Yahoo – and for some reason Trillian keeps logging out one of my Yahoo accounts. SO I just leave one open on Trill and use Y!IM for the other. Also Trillian does not play nice with Yahoo Chat Rooms which I use for meetings quite often.
